304 (18/8) — the food-grade baseline

304 stainless contains ~18% chromium and 8% nickel. It is corrosion-resistant, non-reactive and safe for the inner wall that contacts drinks — including acidic coffee or citrus. This is the industry-standard food-grade choice.

201 — the cost-effective outer wall

201 has lower nickel and is cheaper. It is perfectly fine for the outer wall, which never touches liquid. The risk appears only when a supplier quietly uses 201 for the inner wall to cut cost — that can rust and leach under acidic use.

Always specify 304 (or 316) for the inner wall and verify on samples.

316 (18/10) — premium corrosion resistance

316 adds molybdenum for superior resistance to corrosion and chloride — ideal for coastal markets or wellness brands where safety scrutiny is highest. It costs more, so it is usually reserved for premium lines.
